@NettoSaito Didn’t know they were 3 differents animes just put together. Plus, what’s “zero” with Roy or “macross plus” with Max : never heard about it ? I’d love to know more because the characters of the 1st season are my favorites. Tell me more please. I was like Cornbreadthedog : I used to watch the 3rd season because I wanted to see Rick Hunter (I was in love with him – lol) and never saw him : I was so disappointed at the end. Anyway : ROBOTECH ROCKS !
I loved Robotech when I was a teen. In fact, I was in love with Rick Hunter and I was Lisa. But not only, I love all the characters, the stories (3 generations though the 1st is the better), the music and the sooongs : loooove it ! Thank you for sharing ! Seeing it again reminds me so many souvenirs
@cornbreadthedog yeah, you know robotech is just 3 animes put together right? then they just changed some things up in the later seasons so they could tie them in with macross.
but really you should watch macross plus, 7, frontier and even zero.
zero happens a few years before macross (shows some of roy’s past), plus wasn’t as good as the others but… it happened next. 7 is about the space colony (macross 7) that max is leading. the main characters are part of a band though.
@NettoSaito ….i watched macross plus years ago. i barely remember it. i need to watch it again. but rick hunter’s adventures are a tough act to follow. the southern cross saga with dana, in my opinion, was a big let-down after seeing the macross saga.. the third saga, i barely remember it as well. i do remember hoding out for an appearance by admiral hunter and crew. at the end of that saga, the main hero flies off in his veritech fighter to find admiral hunter in deep space.
@JonathonStriker ..robotech also got me into anime! i watched this in the tenth grade when it first premiered back in the 80′s. 25 years later though, robotech still holds up! it rocks! and the first three episodes of the macross saga are my absolute favorites! peace and love!
@JonathonStriker Waghh! My childhood too. When I saw this I practically did a happy dance in my chair. When I was a little girl, I loved this stuff! Screw my little pony and barbie, I wanted a zentraedi shapeship. And I totally had to look that up how to spell that. 8D
@RedwoodTheElf Well because in the Star Wars Universe the better a computer can calculate navigation and thus shorten the distance needed to travel between two points (Because they do not go in a straight line), the faster they complete the trip. Who is Nitpicking now? Obi Wan asks, “Is it a fast ship?”. In the Star Wars Universe, that doesnt nessecarily mean speed, it could just be asking, are we going to get there a shorter faster way, or a longer slower way?
@RedwoodTheElf Actually Lucas said he was talking about distance and how he did it in a shorter distance thus saving time. Yes good Navigation and speed are related. As explained. If his navigation allows him to make the kessel run in 12 Parsecs, instead of the 18 it normally takes others who skirt the Maw Black Holes. Then he finishes the run faster. Thus having a good navigaitonal computer allows him to finish trips faster, since he has a shorter distance to go. Check out the link I left.
@RedwoodTheElf Actually if you go to starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kessel_Run you will see that they explain the whole thing there and clarify he was not referring to time. But the route. I guess the Kessel run was normally an 18 Parsec route :). It gives more detail though on the link I provided.
@coldice33 One more thing: We can travel in space ROUGHLY 30,000 mph (With current technology)…at that rate it would take us ROUGHLY 22,366 years to travel 1 light year. So by saying lightyears, it insinuates thousands of years ahead of us. Could he have said thousands of years ahead of our tech? yes…but doesnt mean using lightyears was wrong either. :)’
@1400VID No use comparing Gundam to Robotech. Its Apples and Oranges. How do you know the GN Drives are more advanced and powerful then fusion drives? Neither exist, so no way to compare. However, if we must compare them. The veritech is much more vesatile. They would be able to climb to altitude and wipe out gundams on the ground who can only leap so high. In Space, the veritech is still more maneuvrable. I would take Max in a Veritech over any Gundam with their pilot anyday.
@RedwoodTheElf He does mention how they have to navigate around suns, asteroid fields, etc…Thus they are not traveling in a straight line when going lightspeed. Thus their may be legs of the journey that they measure in parsecs. So perhaps 12 parsecs for the Kessel run is a record :). Maybe one of the special modifications he did was tweaking his nav computer to be able to calculate jumps to lightspeed closer to phenomenom other nav computers would avoid or give wider berth?
@RedwoodTheElf Not nessecarily. When traveling at lightspeed, they navigational computer may have to calculate a route in paresecs. He could have meant that their nav computer was able to calculate the kessel run in 12 parsecs, instead of others who had to do it in 15 parsecs lets say, which would mean a faster trip.
@coldice33 One light year is the distance light travels in a year. That distance is vast, so used in that context, they are saying that their technology is vastly beyond ours. Their techonology is a great distance beyond ours. Yes you can use distance as a measurement in this instance. If you were to place technology on a linear scale, say each CM is a year and then the number of years between the steam engine and the combustion engine. You would then have a distance in cm’s. It’s all relative.

Oh man, I’ve compared the first episode of Robotech to the first episode of Macross and Robotech beats ADV’s English dub hard.
Of course, ADV isn’t known for quality acting so it’s quite easy to beat them in that department.

@cornbreadthedog so did you watch the rest of macross (plus, 7, dynamite 7, zero, frontier)? or did you only watch robotech?

@onegemini77
Then why wasn’t he bragging about the SPEED of the ship, and not his NAVIGATION skills, eh?

@onegemini77
Nope. Lucas just used the wrong word. Good Navigation and speed (which is what Solo was bragging about) aren’t related…
