The sound effects added by Manga Entertainment in the flashbacks were unnecessary and the original thruster, weapons, and explosion sound effects of Macross were better.

reading all your comments is almost as cool as seeing these old episodes. it was the same for me as a kid to rush home and watch the latest episodes and then talk to my school friends about it the next day. especially when it came to all the drama between rick and min mie. Voltron, Transformers, G.I. Joe and for a while there Thundercats was popular with us too. But Star Blazers was the best of all!

@mikesson agreed. I have commented on many robotech eps. Robotech didn’t shy away from the facts. War, people die, people you love die, people who love you will die for you. Nothing was clean or sanitized in this series, so indeed ROBTECH IS STILL THE STANDARD. Story, backstory, side story, action. In effect a anime soap opera with a massive bodycount.

this episode shows how lisa hayes lost her will to live when her first love is confirmed dead on mars. it leads to her first real fight with sgt. rick hunter when she refuses to be rescued by him. rick still rescues lisa from the base. it also starts their uneasy relationship that leads to a happy ending with old sourpuss and the dope(lisa n rick).

@CyrussNP maybe… or maybe you have a very strong sense of what duty should be. I don’t know if you’ve been in war before-I haven’t myself-but I’d have to imagine that day in and day out, living in constant kill or be killed situations would make even the most gung-ho/patriotic get tired. I don’t think he’s a coward because he’d been in the war for a while. Maybe he just ‘lost his teeth’ so to speak… maybe he’s just sick of it all. we can each see it our own way… I guess.
